"WTC" Stone may get his Oscar

Well, I did something rather rare and completely unusual yesterday afternoon. I took the day off at shortly before 4PM CST and went to see "World Trade Center". I normally do not have time to watch movies in the theater so I consider the rare opportunity a real treat.

I have to say that I was a bit apprehentious going in. I had no idea what to expect. I knew little about the story. Well, I knew about 9/11 as I lived it, however I knew nothing about the story directory Oliver Stone chose to portray. Without giving too much away, I have to say that this is probably the best portrayal of a true story I have ever seen. Usually when a tragic event is portrayed by Hollywood it comes off like some B-Grade made for TV movie.

The acting was wonderful and genuine. The emotions were there weather you lived it or not. I sat alone in a theater at mid day, crunching popcorn, eating a pretzel and sipping cherry coke all the while reliving that day when my mother (originally from the Bronx) called me at 7:35 AM to wake me up and tell me that the Twin Towers had been hit.

I do not think there was a single person in that theater that was not crunching louder on their popcorn to hid their sniveling as tears drenched their tasty treats. I know I was continually salting my popcorn from time to time.

I had half expected to hear little "Left wing" comments, and pokes at the present day events, the war in Iraq, President Bush, and other blip verts of liberal stupidity interjected into the film. There were none. The film was completely devoid of any agenda other than depicting the stories and events surrounding two officers buried alive in the elevator shaft of Tower 5.

Stone really stayed on topic. The film was focused on these officers, their families, and the men that God ushered in to save them.

I really think Stone will get his Oscar this time, and he truly deserves it. Go see this film. It is completely devoid of conspiracy theories, propaganda, and idiotic pokes at those in charge.

In only thing that bothered me about the film was the lack of any Juliani presence. He was there almost immediately. I am a bit remiss about that. However, I have a feeling that Stone wanted to be consistent and keep any kind of hint of politics out of this film.

It's not often something comes out of Hollywood that is not so laden with a liberal diatribe that you feel the need to puke in between scenes. Great job Stone!
