Steve Irwin Dead at 44

My wife woke me at 1AM CST US this morning to tell me that Steve Irwin died. I was in complete shock. The first thought I had was, "a croc"? "No", my wife replied, "a stingray". "What?", I thought. We've watched Steve Irwin for as long as I can remember. It was probably one of the only shows I know of that both me and my wife would find ourselves watching together. That kind of mutual gratification from a TV program for two people of totally opposite TV viewing tastes is a rarity.

Over the years we've watched Steve's family grow to include his wife Terry, daughter Bindi and Son Bob, all the while watching our family grow up along with the Irwins.

It's a sad day. Steve Irwin was probably one of the most prolific, yet humble and self deprecating stars out there. I can not think of a single moment where you did not find anything other than a genuine love of life and nature from this man. He truly was a kindred and kind spirit.

He will be forever missed!
