Jason Calacanis, retard or just plain arrogant?

I've seen some arrogant people in my time, but this Jason Calacanis (who the hell is he?) takes the cake. Admittedly, I've never heard of the guy, not that that matters, but I would gather a great many in the SEO world have never heard of him either.

For those that do not know (or care, I know I don't), Jason is the original founder of Weblogs, Inc. which he sold to AOL for 25 million bucks. Then he went to work for AOL. After a short stint at AOL he left, like most that see the end coming, he left claiming he "missed the excitement of building & launching new companies."

Ah, ok Jason...

So what is he doing now? Working for Sequoia Capital as an "Entrepreneur in Action - building new & incredibly profitable companies".

From there? He ends up at SES in Chicago (an obscure little Search Engine Strategies trade show). As keynote speaker he spent most of his time using his favorite word "digg". He did mention the word "digg" as well, oh and of course, aside from the 12 degree sub zero temperature, who could forget him mentioning DIGG?

My favorite Jason quote of the day was this:

"SEO is bullshit, if you generate a web page with good content Google will rank the page properly."

Boy this guy is just smart as a whip. Where do they find such brilliant Keynote speakers? Was there no one on fry station number two at the local Solid Gold McDonalds that could give us a dissertation on SFO (Super Sized Fry Openings)?

So, SEO is BS. This coming from a guy who simply got lucky. Made a paltry 25 million bucks off some over valued Weblog service. Meanwhile, he goes to work for the company that bought it? Can you say, no cash, just stock... Then he leaves; ironically shortly after the CEO left in shame? Can you say BROKE? I have a feeling that not much of that 25 million ever found it's way into his pockets. Oh, I am sure there was quite a bit of cash, just not as much as he claims.

Now he goes to a convention where the attendees are all SEO's, and then calls their profession BULL SHIT? What was he thinking?

Actually, what were the idiot organizers of SES thinking? What a waste!

Well if he didn't end up with any actual cash it sucks to be him because Web Blogs Inc had revenues of around $200,000 a month and probably outgoings of about $20,000 when it got sold to AOL.

It was a good little cash cow.
